Managing DNS Zones in WebHost Manager (WHM)

DNS Zones are the part of the Domain Name System where records of each existing zone are organized. DNS Zones are particularly important in resolving DNS problems that servers may encounter. WHM allows administrators to manually manage their DNS Zones, although the software, by default, is configured to manage DNS zones on its own. Due to the somewhat complicated process of managing DNS zones, manual management is not recommended, especially for less experienced administrators.

The following tutorial provides administrators a step-by-step guide on managing DNS zones in WHM:

Managing DNS Zones in WebHost Manager (WHM)

1. Log in to WHM.

Take note that there are few instances when manual modification of DNS zones is necessary. Proceed with caution when modifying DNS zones on your own.

2. Click the DNS functions link.

3. Then, in the next screen, click the “add a DNS zone” icon.

4. You would then be taken to the screen where you can add new DNS zones. This process will, however, not be covered by the tutorial.

5. Now, click the DNS functions link near the upper left corner of the screen. In the new screen, click the “Delete a DNS Zone” link.

6. You can choose a zone to delete from a corresponding scroll-down list on the right side panel.

7. Select from the list the zone that you want to delete then click the delete button to complete the process.

However, this tutorial will not focus on the topic. Instead, click on the DNS functions link.

8. Then, click on the Edit DNS zone link.

9. Select demo123.com.

10. Next, click edit.

11. You will then be taken to the editing screen where you can edit properties of demo123.com.

12. Scroll down to see other properties.

13. All properties of the demo123.com account can be edited in this screen. Be careful when modifying or changing any values in the properties. Do not edit anything you are not familiar with.

14. Now, click the DNS functions link.

15. Then, click on the edit MX Entry link.

16. In the next screen, click on demo123.com from the list of accounts.

17. Click edit.

18. You would be taken to a screen where you can specify a custom MX entry. This is where you want to go when customers prefer to host their email on another server. Just enter the other server’s ip address then click on save.

19. This is the end of the tutorial on how to manage DNS zones in WHM.

20. Thank you for watching our video tutorial.
