Generating and Installing SSL Certificates in WebHost Manager (WHM)

SSL secures the transactions between servers and browsers. It uses a third party protocol, particularly a CA (Certificate Authority) to identify the parties of the transaction.

Below is a step by step guide on generating and installing SSL Certificates in WebHost Manager:

Generating and Installing SSL Certificates in (WHM)

1. This demo is about Generating and Installing SSL Certificates in WHM.

2. Log on to WHM.

3. Click the SSL/TLS link. Getting your own domain-specific SSL certificate installed and working properly is a three step process. First, you need to generate a request. Second, you have to purchase a certificate and finally, install the certificate. To proceed with this process click on the Generate a SSL Certificate and Signing Request link.

4. A page will load with a form. In this table, we have to enter information about the domain name for which the certificate is for. Enter the email address where the certificate request information should be emailed.

5. Type in info@demo345.com in the Email Address The Cert will be sent to field. Then enter the domain name the certificate will be for.

6. Type in demo345.com in the Host to make cert for field. In this example, we want to be able to access demo345.com securely, like this: https://demo345.com, which is why we entered the name as so. The rest of the information on the form describes who the certificate is for, and will be displayed within the certificate. Proceed with completing the form.

7. Type in US in the country field.

8. Type in GA in the state field.

9. Type in Atlanta in the city field.

10. Type in Demo345 in the company name field.

11. Type in Hosting in the Company Division field.

12. Type in info@demo345.com in the email field.

13. Type in your password. Click the Create button at the upper right hand corner of the page once done.

14. Step 1 is complete! We’ve just generated a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and a Key, both of which are encrypted. This information would also have been emailed to the email address provided on the previous page, and will be needed later when we go to install the certificate.

15. Scroll down the page to the end of the Certificate box.

16. The next step is to purchase a certificate, which we cannot show you how to do here. You have to go to an SSL certificate vendor to purchase the certificate, and they will require the Certificate Signing Request we just generated in Step 1. Once you’ve successfully purchased the certificate (step 2), you must return on this page to install it (step 3, final step). Click the Install a SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain link.

17. The next screen is where you can install your newly purchased SSL certificate.

18. The Domain, User and IP Address boxes may fill in automatically when you paste your certificate above, but if not, enter the domain this certificate is for in the domain field (in this case demo345.com). The username for this domain goes here in the User field (in this case demo345). The IP Address for the domain goes here in the IP address field. If you don’t know what it is, you can go to List Accounts in WHM to look it up.

19. The Key that was generated with the certificate signing request in Step 1 should be pasted in here. If required, the CA bundle should be copied and pasted in here. If you haven’t seen it or do not know what it is, leave the box blank.

20. Click the Submit button and the SSL certificate would successfully install.

21. This is the end of the demo. You now know how to generate a SSL certificate signing request and install the certificate in the server.
