How to Create a Subdomain in cPanel

In dealing with cPanel, a UNIX based web hosting software, maybe as a web designer or someone who is interested in creating his/her own website, creating a subdomain is one of the most significant processes you’ll eventually do. Subdomain is a domain that is housed over a larger domain. Meaning, it is a domain in domains.

The tutorial below will teach you how to name your subdomain in cPanel:

How to Create a Subdomain in cPanel

1.  First of all, Login to cPanel.

2.  We search for the Subdomain icon in the platform. Scroll down and look for the Subdomain icon located in the Domains section.

3. After locating the Subdomain, click it.

4. After clicking the Subdomain Icon, a definition of Subdomain should appear and just below it is the “Create a Subdomain” section that contains the text box that is indicated by “subdomain: “ . This is where you can type in your desired prefix for the subdomain.

5. Click the text box and type in the desired prefix for your new subdomain.

6. Click the text box with a label beside it indicating “Document Root: “. This will show you your default directory for the subdomain. Click the Create Button.

7. This will create your new subdomain with the prefix you inputted. A folder called “Demo” has also been created where you can store files for your subdomain. The “Demo” folder can be located in the public_html directory and can be accessed by typing in the address bar this format, “www.mywebsite.org/demo”. Click the Go Back Button.

8. The created subdomain is finally listed in the subdomain section. Though optional, you can provide virtual FTP access to your subdomain. This can be done in the FTP Manager provided by cPanel.

9. Click the Home Button.
