The File Manager is a computer program used for organizing computer files. In this tutorial, a step by step guide on the proper usage of the File Manager; its functions include uploading files to a VPS account, renaming and deleting them, changing access permissions, creating folders, and many other functions.
To learn how to use file manager in virtuozzo follow the steps below:
1. Log into a Virtuozzo Power Pannel (VZZP) account.
2. Click the “File Manager” link, located between the “Change Password” and “Maintenance” link at the left of the screen.
The File Manager content is now open; the folders shown are all the contents of the VPS root directory.
3. Scroll down.
4. Proceed to the bottom of the page.
The bottom right of the page shows a variety of commands that can be used to manage the files and folders displayed on the page:
a. Copy
b. Move
c. Remove
(To use the copy, move, and remove commands, select first the file or folder to be used.)
5. Scroll back up.
6. Open the “home” directory folder by clicking it.
7. To create a new folder in the “home” directory, click “Create Folder.”
(Other options are also available here such as “Create File” and “Upload File,” which will be further discussed below.)
8. Type the desired folder’s name in the box provided and then click the “Create” button.
(The new folder can now be seen along with the other folders as the user is redirected in the “home” directory.)
9. To rename the folder previously created, click the “Rename” icon near the file.
10. The Change Properties page can now be navigated.
11. Enter the new folder name in the entry box beside the “Name*” category, for example “NewDirectory.” Scroll down to view the other options.
12. Click “Submit.”
(The new folder has now been renamed.)
13. To navigate the newly renamed folder, click “NewDirectory.”
14. To upload a file to the “NewDirectory” folder, click “Upload File” button at the upper right menu.
15. Then click “Browse,” a new window will now pop out wherein the file to be uploaded shall be chosen.
16. Select the file to be uploaded, for this tutorial it is the “test_scriptl.cgi.”
17. Click “Open.”
18. Click “Upload” to upload the file.
(The new file “test_scriptl.cgi” is now uploaded to the “NewDirectory” folder.
19. To change the permissions of the recently uploaded file, click the “File Properties” icon at the right side of the file.
20. Scroll down.
21. To change the file permission, select the permission to be granted by ticking the appropriate box.
(In here the major permission options “Read,” “Write,” and “Execute” can be selected in conjunction to the “Owner,” “Group,” and “Others” category.)
22. To create an execute permission to the owner, click the box located on its right side.
23. To create an execute permission to a group, click the box located on its right side.
24. To create an execute permission to other users, click the box located on its right side.
After selecting all the desired permissions, click “Submit.”
(The permissions are now changed and can be viewed beside the file’s details.)
25. To delete a file from the VPS, select the file by ticking the box beside the file name.
26. Click the “Remove” button.
27. A small window will appear, select “OK” to confirm.
(The file is now removed from the “NewDirectory” folder.)
28. To remove the “NewDirectory” folder that is currently open, click the “Up” icon.
29. Select “NewDirectory” by clicking the check box.
30. Click “Remove.”
31. Confirm the file deletion by selecting “OK.”
(The newly created file is now deleted.)
32. Click the “Up” icon to return to the main folders section.
33. Click the “Top” link to return to the main screen.
(The “Top” link is at the uppermost panel of the window.)
